Service Civil International

June 2017

In October, as every October, SCI will hold the Exchange Platform Meeting in France, where different branches and partners will come together to exchange best practices/ideas and pave the road for future partnerships. But some of our partners won’t be able to come as they can't afford it, despite some of the amazing work they do in their countries. This is where we need you! Even a small contribution can be substantial to make this possible. Feel free to share the crowdfunder among your contacts and spread the word!

The European Solidarity Corps project is going on. You can find some updates in the newsletter and GAIA Microgrants has already funded 7 other projects. And you? You can check the www.workcamps.info database and spend your summer with SCI! Or maybe check the online volunteering possibilities.

SCI has launched a crowdfunding campaign in order to allow certain partners with limited funds to participate in the Exchange Platform Meeting (EPM), a meeting focused on the exchange of best practices and ideas. Many of these organisations do amazing work and learning from their experience in difficult situations would be wonderful for the meeting. The GoFundMe Campaign was created to help them with travel expenses. Support, share, and contribute, as every little bit will go a long way in allowing these partners to have a voice in this meeting!

Project's updates

From the 8th -14th of May the PATH seminar took place in Novi Sad, Serbia. The participants explored the history of the wars in ex-Yugoslavia while drawing parallels between the situation in the region then and the current situation where the Balkan Peninsula is still being affected by forced migration. Here a story from Albana and Mimoza, from GAIA Kosovo, who joined as a special guest.
And here you can find some picture from the Peer Univeristy in Poland, a meeting inside the framework of the Peers to Peace project.

News from our Branches

CVS-Bulgaria is looking for your help! SCI branch in Bulgaria is running a crowdfunding campaign to organise a workcamp in Banya, a little village, that hosts a small reception centre. Usually Banya camp, being so isolated and difficult to reach, are unable to do the work of big NGOs and the people there (especially children) do not have access to any organised activities. Our aim is facilitating workshops and educational and recreational activities for the children and adults in the camp in order to make them feel welcome a the new country. Help them to achieve this great goal!
Instead, VCV Serbia organized a Living Library event called ''Closing borders'', which focused on refugees and migration. This event gathered volunteers and members of NGOs that are currently working on the field in Belgrade, Subotica and Šid, in order to help those that are stuck between Serbian state borders, and whose fate are more uncertain as the days pass. After this event Sonia, from VCV Serbia, talked with Marina, one of the organizers of the “Closing Borders” Living Library.

The evolution of SCI over the last forty years can be compared to the growth of a plant. The movement has spread from country to country and from continent to continent, taking root here and there. SCI has made various experiments in the field of voluntary work thanks to the energy and the generosity of men and women who deeply believe in SCI ideals and methods. Read more
