The last work day of 2016 and the last E-Zine for this year. And with the end of the year, we want to thank all SCI volunteers around the world! That’s why we asked our branches and groups around the world to dedicate a few minutes to thank you, volunteers, and your great activities and participation during the year. So thank you, and we wish you a 2017 rich with joy, experience and peace!

Here we are at the end of a wonderful year at SCI, and we are here especially thanks to all our volunteers. Thanks to you, dear volunteer, we organised hundreds of international voluntary projects and workcamps, with activities from Australia to Sweden, and from Indonesia to Nigeria. You participated as Long Term Volunteers, you did #EVS, you organised peaceful actions and events! You made an impact locally and globally! Volunteers are our best voices, that's why we want to say to you THANK YOU!

Building Bridges promotional video
Building Bridges, SCI’s grassroots awareness raising campaign on the issues facing those seeking refuge and asylum has released a brand new inspirational promotion video.
SCI Refugees fund
The 18th of December is the International Migrants Day, and SCI wants to celebrate it by remembering the 13 projects supported during 2016 thanks to the Refugee Fund.
SCI attending UNESCO NGOs Conference
UNESCO presently maintains partnership with 381 NGOs and 30 foundations and other instiutions, amongst them SCI. SCI representative, Steffi Koch is currently in Paris at the UNESCO headquarters attending the conference with the crosscutting theme "The challenge of the digital revolution for NGOs".
Gender Blenders - a new group within SCI
Two years ago in the No More War team a discussion arose about the connection between Gender violence and war. It was developed into a seminar, called “Picture Perfect? Dangerous stereotypes about Gender and Sexuality”, which took place in Berlin, Germany, November 2015 (funded by Erasmus+). Valerie Weidinger, one of the facilitators of the seminar and member of the Gender Blenders tells us more about the seminar and how the group has grown since then.

I found this poster only recently, when I was looking for material on the solidarity campaign with SWAPO and Namibia which had been coordinated by SEED. The abbreviation stands for Solidarity Exchanges Education Development - SCI's former North South commission based at the then European Secretariat in Antwerpen. It was a veteran who had been involved in SCI at that time, and in this campaign particularly, and who had asked whether there was some extra material that could be let to him.Here more.
SCI Representative the New President of CCIVS
We are extremely happy to share the latest news from the General Assembly of the Coordinating Commitee for International Voluntary Service: SCI representative, Ingrid Danckaerts will succeed Matina Deligianni from SJ France as the new president of the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS). A Route to Connect: youngsters crossing borders for a better Europe
We are delighted to announce that the Work Plan for 2017 submitted to the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe has been approved! The project will be an important part of of SCI's current campaign Building Bridges. More here.
