October 2016

The end of the year is coming and with it a lot of news, action, stories, information and the possibility to collaborate with SCI in several ways. Are you interested in some specific updates from SCI International? Or in a training that might be useful, or do you simply want to take 10 minutes off from what are you doing? Then, enjoy the reading! Would you like to share your SCI story or suggest something interesting for the next edition? Are you are interested in refugees, gender empowerment, non formal education and volunteering and would like to write for the SCI website? Why not! Tell us your ideas, we will try to turn it into reality! Feel free to send your feedback or any contributions for the next edition of the SCI E-Zine.

Voices of Volunteers

We had three new stories from our volunteers around the world, that have been involved in workcamps this summer. One from a Peace Center in Sri Lanka, one from a workcamp in Slovenia and the last one from a refugees camp in Lebanon. Read on the blog the stories, and if you have been in SCI workcamps or other SCI experiences, feel free to share with us your story, and we will post it on the blog. Volunteers are our best voice!

Where has SCI been this month?

It's been a busy month for SCI representatives this October! We were at the 3rd Compass Forum in Hungary, the European Volunteering Forum in Slovenia, the Asia-Europe Environment Forum Conference in Sweden, the Yo!Fest prep meeting in Maastricht and look out for SCI branch reps at United Conference that takes place this week!

From the archives

In one of the many boxes I got from the IS two years ago, I found this sober sheet of paper in DIN A3 format, containing a diagram that shows all relevant international bodies of SCI in handdrawn rectangles and their relations in various lines, also drawn by hand. Read more here

IS Update

What happened in the IS office during October? You can’t even imagine! Departure and arrivals: as our EVS volunteers Shane and Angeliki ended their EVS, but already 2 other EVS arrived, Suvi from Finland, and Martina from Italy. And then our new Tech guy, Geoffrey from France. Plus a new project Officer from the Czech Republic, Alena! A little Europe inside the office! Read more here.

Why the Global Human Rights Week?

From 17th to 22nd of October the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service promoted the Global Human Rights Week, an initiative inside the campaign Raising Peace. In order to contribute and give visibility to the existing challenges, the Human Rights Week had the aim to gather all the actions done to transform the reality and to raising awareness on the topic.
